LST (Landing Ship Tank)

(Depth 26m - 35m)
LST's were used to land the large supplies required after beach-heads had been secured by troops. Although nicknamed 'Large Slow Targets' they were in fact robust and wartime losses were no greater than other shipping types. The LST in Subic Bay was actually sunk by the Americans as target practice after the war.
The wreck is 90 metres long, standing upright, the maximum depth is at 35 metres and the deck is at 27 metres.
The rear superstructure has long since collapsed and the midships deck section has begun to collapse in recent years. Both front clamshell doors have fallen off but stand upright in the sand! The cargo hold is an easy swim through and there are deep penetrations possible for the experienced wreck diver.
The deck level has blue spotted rays, schools of small barracuda, large barracuda. Forward there are large snappers and sweetlips. To the rear, many scorpion fish and a large school of yellow damselfish. There are regular sightings of white-tip sharks and even occasional bull sharks and eagle rays.
This wreck is best dived on 32% Nitrox for a 50% increase in bottom time.
